[ARCHIVED] Ribbon Cutting for NEW Southview Trail

5 p.m., Thursday, June 5 at the intersection of Ruth Ewing Road and Southview Drive

On June 5, the City of Liberty will celebrate National Trails Day a few days early by opening a new 1-mile trail segment that will extend the Cates Creek Greenway Trail. Come join the celebration at the new trailhead parking lot near the intersection of Ruth Ewing Road and Southview Drive (map).

In addition to a ribbon cutting, the event will include comments by Liberty Parks and Recreation Department Director Janet Bartnik and Park Board PresidentPatrick Flora. Liberty Mayor Lyndell Brenton also will present a Trails Day proclamation.

After the ceremony, hit the trail for a challenging walk/run/bike/ skateboard up and over the hills on this new trail.

This is the City's first road-to-trail project. By converting the road to a wide, paved trail, the City saved nearly $1 million in trail construction costs. When combined, the Cates Creek Greenway Trail and this new Southview Trail, which will run south from Ruth Ewing Road, will be the longest unbroken segment in Liberty's trail system.
