[ARCHIVED] UDF Schedule - March 13

Crews will be flushing water lines in  District 1, Zone 25, segments 3-5 this includes S. Brooks Court, Pine St. and Choctaw St. This removes material build-up from within pipes.  Water and any collected materials is discharged through a fire hydrant.

As a part of continued efforts to properly maintain the City's water distribution lines and ensure that our drinking water remains as high of quality of possible, the Utilities Distribution Division conducts an annual Unidirectional Flushing (UDF) Program.

During UDF, water is forced through a water pipe at a velocity high enough to remove material build-up from within the pipe.  The water and any collected materials is then discharged through a fire hydrant.

The material removed during UDF is harmless and requires no special treatment, but if left in the pipes can restrict water flow, accelerate corrosion rates and contribute to unfavorable water aesthetics (like taste, odor and color).

The UDF program also allows the Utilities Distribution Division to identify any necessary repairs and/or replacements to fire hydrants, valves and lines to ensure the integrity of the system.
