[ARCHIVED] Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event

is Aug. 11 from 8 a.m. - noon at the Liberty School Services, 801 Kent Street. Please note that this is earlier than in past years.

Materials accepted include automotive fluids, batteries, paint, paint-related products, lawn and garden chemicals, house cleaners, glues and fluorescent light bulbs (compact and tube). Because of their hazardous qualities, these items cannot be thrown out with the regular trash. Electronic waste and business waste will NOT be accepted — including waste from home-based businesses, nonprofits, churches and rental property owners.

Residents of Liberty, Excelsior Springs, Glenaire, Kearney, Lawson, Pleasant Valley, Smithville, Sugar Creek, Unincorporated Clay County as well as other communities participating in the Regional HHW Collection Program can safely dispose of their household hazardous waste at this special collection event at no charge.

To find out if you live in a participating community call 816-701-8226 or go to www.recyclespot.org.

Residents of participating communities may also drop off household hazardous waste for free at two permanent facilities located in Kansas City and Lee’s Summit. The Kansas City facility is located at 4707 Deramus Street and is open year-round on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. No appointment is needed. The Lee’s Summit facility at 2101 S.E. Hamblen Road is open on the first Saturday and third Wednesday of each month, year-round. Appointments are required. Call 816-623-3066 to schedule an appointment.
