[ARCHIVED] Progress as Promised: Work begins on Nashua Water Tower with funding from Utility Infrastructure Fee

In 2009, the City of Liberty implemented a sewer and water utilities infrastructure fee to begin addressing the estimated $40-50 million of backlogged infrastructure rehabilitation projects in the City's sanitary sewer and water systems. This $2 per month per customer fee, noted as UI Fee (Utilities Infrastructure Fee) on customer bills, is dedicated to specific rehabilitation projects.

This year, the funds have been dedicated to rehabilitation of the Nashua Water Tower. Utility Service Co., Inc, the City's contractor has already begun on both the inside and outside of the tower. With the ½-million gallon water tower already drained, the contractor will clean the interior of the tank and ensure the structure is sound and water tight.

For passersby, the most visible cue to the rehabilitation will be a change in the tower's color. Currently white, the exterior of the tower will be painted a light blue with the City's dark blue and green brand prominently displayed on two sides of the tower.

One of two water towers in Liberty, the Nashua Tower is part of a system that distributes between 3-4 million gallons of water to Liberty customers each day.

Work on the tower was scheduled for fall so as to avoid high water demand months.
