The Missouri Department of Transportation is preparing for two significant bridge replacements on Route 69 over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad just north of Liberty as part of the Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program. This will require north and southbound Route 69 to be reduced to one lane throughout the duration of work beginning 7 a.m. on Monday, March 19 through July 26, weather permitting.
Crews will use the existing intersection at East Heartland Drive and construct a temporary crossover south of Chandler Road to allow north and southbound Route 69 traffic to bypass the bridge closure. Motorists will be placed into a head-to-head traffic configuration, limiting access to Route 69 for traffic using the East Heartland Drive and Chandler Road intersections.
Beginning Monday morning, crews will close the left lane of Route 69 in both directions between Chandler Road and the BNSF Railroad bridges for construction of a temporary crossover. Once construction for the temporary bypass is complete, traffic will be placed into the head-to-head traffic configuration.
