[ARCHIVED] Over 50 after 5:00 program offers Veteran's Benefits Seminar

Wartime veterans and their surviving spouses may be entitled to a special monthly pension called Aid and Attendance. This program is administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs, also known as the VA. This special monthly pension may be available when a wartime veteran or their spouse have either in-home care or live in an assisted living facility or a nursing home. To be eligible for this benefit, there are certain military service requirements that must be met and, in addition, there is a “needs” or asset limit requirement.

As part of the Over 50 after 5:00 program created by Liberty’s Senior Services division, Kara T. Burgess, an accredited Veterans Benefits attorney, will present an hour-long seminar explaining eligibility requirements and answering questions regarding this program.

This seminar is being offered on Tuesday, August 14 at 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday, August 15 at 10:00 a.m. To participate in this informative program, call the Liberty Community Center to register at 816.439.4360. A fee of $5.00 will be applied. Registration deadline is August 10.

The Over 50 after 5:00 program strives to offer activities that encourage social, intellectual and physical activity for the 50 and better crowd. For more information on this and other activities, call the City’s Senior Services Division at 816.439.4365 or visit
