Frank and Lenny Liberty are back from their wintery cat nap with news from the Downtown Reconstruction Project! The construction crews took a break during the holiday shopping season so all the shoppers could make their way Downtown.
Now that 2017 is almost one week old, Phase 4 will begin next week. The contractor will tackle this phase in even smaller pieces to minimize street closures and traffic disruptions as much as possible.
The crew will begin with the below ground utilities upgrades next week, beginning on Main, from Kansas to Franklin. Starting Monday or Tuesday, parking will be closed to allow for staging of equipment and will remain closed while crews replace the water and sewer lines.
The Main Street roadway will remain open to vehicular traffic and sidewalks and stores will still be accessible. This section is anticipated to take 1 1/2 - 2 weeks. There will be short, temporary road closures as needed when it's time to tie in the utilities lines at the Main / Franklin intersection.
Once that section is completed, parking will reopen on Main and the crew will move on to similar work on Kansas and Water, still minimizing street closures and traffic disruptions.
Getting this utilities work done up front will make street reconstruction, which will include road closures, move more quickly. Street reconstruction, sidewalk and curbing work won’t begin until we can be assured of a long stretch of warmer weather to allow the concrete to cure.
