[ARCHIVED] Liberty Community Center Natatorium Closure for Painting

The Liberty Community Center's indoor pools, outdoor pools, sauna and hot tub will be closed for a complete natatorium painting from Wednesday, August 21 - Wednesday, September 11.

Why do we need to paint the natatorium?

Regular maintenance of our aging facility is paramount. About 75% of the Natatorium paint is original to the building which opened in February of 1992. Throughout the natatorium, the paint is chipped, faded and failing. We want to provide the best aquatic space possible for all guests.

Why the selected dates?

The dates selected are a compromise to minimize the impact on our members and many community partners who use the facility. Some of the factors that were taken into consideration include:

  • Dates were selected to coincide with the start of the school year, when the outdoor pools are already closed during the week
  • To minimize the impact on members and our many community partners, the dates selected overlap with the Liberty Community Center's annual maintenance week (Sept. 3-8) when other facility maintenance will be completed.

If the natatorium (indoors) is being painted, why are the outdoor pools closed?

For the safety of all guests and the contracted workers, guests will not be allowed to walk from the locker rooms through the natatorium to the outdoor pool. There will be no safe and direct path from the outdoor pool for members to use showers and restrooms.

Why will the indoor pools be closed in the mornings and evenings when the crews are not actively working?

The painters will be using multiple 20 foot scissor lifts and scaffolds, motorized equipment, power washers and rigging systems, the space is considered an active construction site. Fumes from the epoxy paint will be strong and could be potentially harmful to our guests. There will be no access to the natatorium during this time.

Thank you for your cooperation as Liberty Parks & Rec works to improve this highly-used space with much needed maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
