The first step to a new traffic pattern at the intersection of B and H Highways will begin with new striping on the evening of Aug. 20 to , as shown below. Crews will be using rolling lane closures while they add new striping as shown in yellow in the image. For those unfamiliar with this intersection, this is east of William Jewell College's Mabee Center.
The new striping will create a right angle intersection between the two roads, which is preferred for safety and efficiency reasons, and will direct ALL southbound traffic on Rte B to the more eastern intersection, which is closer to the railroad overpass (new striping is shown in yellow below).
This will be followed on Friday with the closure of the more western connection between the two roads (shown below orange rectangle).
This revised intersection layout offers the shortest crossing distance for all road users, improves sight lines for drivers, and simplifies turning movements, reducing the likelihood and severity of collisions.
Signage will be in place to notify drivers of the new traffic pattern after installation. Please drive with caution through the work zone.
