At the Oct. 26 City Council meeting, the Citizens Sales Tax Oversight Committee presented its first annual report, for the period June 2008 – June 2009.
Formed by the Mayor and City Council in 2008, the CSTOC is responsible for undertaking a comprehensive, prospective citizen review and public reporting of City operations in regard to approved special purpose sales taxes, which currently are: Capital Sales Tax, Fire Sales Tax, Parks Sales Tax and Transportation Sales Tax. The committee reviews future actions applicable to the special purpose taxes, specifically voter intent of expenditures and annual review of the applicable budgets.
The Committee determined that during the 2008-2009 period the more than $2.5 million in proposed expenditures of special use funds were consistent with original voter intent.
