[ARCHIVED] Liberty Police Cracks Down on Impaired Drivers

Missouri roads are now safer, thanks to law enforcement cracking down on impaired drivers and working to make sure motorist think twice about traffic safety.

The Liberty Police Department participated in the statewide You Drink and Drive You Lose campaign conducted March 12–14. During the enforcement effort, officers issued a total of 62 traffic tickets including: three for Driving While Intoxicated, three for minor in possession, 33 for speeding, five for not wearing a seat belt, two for unrestrained children, one for following too close, one for signal light violation, two for failure to yield, one for Driving While Suspended, and one for Failing to Show Proof of Insurance.

“When we remove a drunk driver from the roads, we’re all safer,” stated Chief Craig Knouse. “Law enforcement will continue to encourage drivers to make a simple, smart choice to drive sober.”

Driving while intoxicated remains one of the top causes of fatal car crashes in Missouri. In 2008, 261 were killed, 1,202 seriously injured and 3,398 received minor injuries in crashes involving an impaired driver.
