Liberty Storm Swim Team and Programs
Liberty Storm Swim Team (2025 League Champions!)
Liberty Parks and Rec is a member of the METRO league, a B/C developmental league that stresses fundamentals, good sportsmanship and fun! Participants are coached on the proper stroke technique of the four main competitive swim strokes, strength training drills designed to increase cardiovascular output, & streamlining exercises. The Liberty Storm Swim Team is the ultimate step in skill progression. Swimmers need only swim the prerequisite of 25 meters unassisted and meet the age requirement. The Storm is a summer program available to youth ages 18 and under and is held in the outdoor pool.
The parent's season meeting is scheduled on Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. at the Liberty Community Center.
This is the current season meet schedule:

- July 11: 2026 Championship at Gladstone
Morning Practices:
Dates: June 1 - July 11 on Monday - Saturday
- Ages 8 & under from 10 - 10:45 a.m.
- Ages 9 - 10 from from 9 - 10 a.m.
- Ages 11 - 12 from 8 - 9 a.m.
- Ages 13 - 14 from 7 - 8 a.m.
- Ages 15 and up from 7 - 8:30 a.m.
Afternoon Practices:

Preseason Swim Team Programs
Working with Liberty Storm Swim Team Coaches, swimmers will focus on strength training and distance building skills, starts and turns and swim stroke techniques in a smaller, group environment. This program is for swimmers who have previous experience on a swim team and have an understanding of the four main competitive swim strokes.

Intro to Swim Team
This program is designed for the child who is interested in joining a swim team but needs small group programming to establish basic swim team fundamental concepts. Participants must already know how to swim and successfully passed the equivalent of Advanced Novice. This program is designed around visual demonstration followed up with practical learning and application. This six day class will focus on only one technique per day plus building stamina and distance. Day 1 - free style, Day 2 - backstroke, Day 3 - breaststroke, Day 4 - butterfly, Day 5 - starts and mixed swim and Day 6 - flip turns and mixed swim.
This program is for kids ages 7 - 18 years old.

Swim Team Basics
This low cost program is designed for youth who are planning on joining a swim team for the first time or as a repeat participant needing additional guidance. Participants will focus on refining free style, backstroke, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly while building necessary strength training drills. Individuals will be grouped based off skill level. Workouts will include cardiovascular conditioning, streamlining, diving blocks and flip turns. This program is designed around a "coaching" format.
This program is for kids ages 7 - 18 years old.

Swim Team Essentials
This 30 minute “IN & OUT” program is designed for youth who already have experience on a swim team and wants to focus on the individual components of each of the four main strokes, flip turns, and starts. This six class program will focus on only one technique per day. Day 1 - starts, Day 2 - flip turns, Day 3 - free style, Day 4 - backstroke, Day 5 - breast stroke, and Day 6 - butterfly. Unlike other preseason programs, this program is not necessarily designed as an endurance training program, rather skill refinement. All requests for 9 year olds must be approved by the coach.
This program is for kids ages 9 - 18 years old.

This program places a heavy emphasis on a continuation of strength training, building distance, and maximizing the least amount of water resistance. Participants will be provided daily workouts designed to increase cardiovascular output, stamina and streamlining. Coaching will include the correction of deficiencies on freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. This program is designed for participants who have previous experience on a swim team and have a solid understanding of the four main competitive swim strokes.
Minimum age of 10 recommended. All requests for 9 and under need to be pre-approved through the coach.

This is a 30-minute pre-season conditioning program focuses on strength training drills and endurance. Participants will review/refine free style, backstroke and breast stroke. Butterfly will be reintroduced. Complete workouts are provided and designed to increase lung capacity through cardiovascular conditioning, maximum swim stroke efficiency and endurance training. This program is for swimmers who have previous experience on a swim team. Upon completion of this program, swimmers are urged to consider participating in the Stroke Clinic and Starts and Turns.

Dates: May 11 - 14 on Monday - Thursday
- Ages 10 & under from 4:45 - 5:15 p.m.
- Ages 11 and up from 5:15 - 5:45 p.m.
This program is designed to focus on proper stroke technique for freestyle, breast stroke, backstroke and butterfly. Participants will have each stroke broken down into individual components to focus on arm extension, breathing and kicking. Workouts will be designed to increase cardiovascular output, stamina and streamlining. Additionally, flip turns and racing dives from starting blocks will round out this program. This program is an excellent place for new swim team participants to experience a "coaching" format for instruction verses a group swim lesson. Participants must already know how to swim and successfully passed the equivalent of Advanced Novice.

Dates: May 18 - 21 on Monday - Thursday
- Ages 10 & under from 4:35 - 5:35 p.m.
- Ages 11 and up from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
This program focuses on Starts & Turns as part of our progressive preseason swim team clinics. Instruction will focus on teaching the proper way to dive off of a starting block, backstroke starts from the water and successful execution of turns in an attempt to decrease potential disqualifications. Skills will be broken down into a step-by-step sequence which will include verbal explanation and visual demonstrations.
