Comprehensive Safety Action Plan
The City of Liberty is committed to making our streets safer and more accessible for everyone. Liberty Public Works is working on a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP), which will aim to reduce traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries for all modes of travel—whether you’re walking, biking, or driving.
What is the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP)?
The Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP) is a locally driven initiative to identify strategies and actions that improve roadway safety and reduce serious traffic-related crashes. In 2024, the City of Liberty received Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) funding from the Federal Government to develop its CSAP. This planning effort began in fall 2024 and is expected to be completed by summer 2025. The CSAP will outline a data-driven approach to improving transportation safety and guiding future infrastructure investments.
The plan is being developed in coordination with the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) project. Together, these initiatives reflect Liberty’s commitment to proactive safety measures and a safer community atmosphere.
Our Goals:
- Reduce fatalities and serious injuries on Liberty’s streets.
- Improve infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists.
- Enhance traffic flow and safety at intersections.
- Prioritize projects that promote equity and accessibility.
Community Engagement:
Liberty citizens and stakeholders are invited to participate in two community engagement opportunities. Complete the quick (5 minute) survey to share your view on safety within Liberty's transportation system (considering all modes of transportation) and then add any suggestions for safety improvements to be considered on the interactive map. The survey and map will close on March 14, 2025.
Why is this project important?
The CSAP is an essential step toward making Liberty’s streets safer for everyone. By developing this plan, the City can:
- Reduce Traffic Fatalities and Injuries: The primary goal is to prevent serious crashes and save lives by identifying and addressing safety challenges on local roads.
- Create a Safer Community: The project aims to improve safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, ensuring that everyone can navigate the community safely.
- Support Growth and Livability: As Liberty grows, safe transportation infrastructure is essential for maintaining a high quality of life and supporting economic development.
- Secure Federal Funding for Implementation: Developing a CSAP positions Liberty to apply for future funding to implement the identified safety improvements, providing access to resources for long-term change.
